What is a Bluetooth Cell Phone Headset?

A Bluetooth headset is a headset that provides a two-way connection via Bluetooth.  Bluetooth is widely used for cell phone headsets and has become synonymous with headsets.  Bluetooth is also used for other wireless devices as well.

A Bluetooth cell phone  headset gives you the ability to leave your phone in your pocket while using your cell phone.  There are no wires to fuss with freeing up your hands hence hands free.

Pairing up

The process of connecting devices via Bluetooth starts with pairing.  Pairing is a procedure wherein a Bluetooth-enabled phone and another Bluetooth device search for and recognize each other.  Once a connection is made the two devices are able to “talk” to each other and exchange information.  Bluetooth does have limitations with the range of distance being most important for headset users.

Things to consider

If you are in the market for a Bluetooth headset you should consider the following features:

  • Extended talk time and battery life
  • The comfort of the ear insert and stabilizer loop
  • Size/design
  • Sound quality
  • Supports last number redial and voice-activated dialing
  • Comes with a case or holster

Choosing your headset style

The Bluetooth Cell Phone Headset design you choose is a matter of personal preference.

  • Over-the-ear Bluetooth headsets.  Some headsets hook around your ear while other over-the-ear models have ear hooks that can be worn on either the right or left ear.
  • In-ear Bluetooth headsets.  These models fill directly into your ear canal like an earplug.

Evaluating headset features

Consider the following features:

  • Boom microphone.  If call clarity is an import issue choose a headset with a boom microphone.  The microphone extends from the headset toward your mouth so the person you are talking to can really hear what you are saying.
  • Compact design.  If you want a sleek look then go for a compact model without a boom microphone.
  • Caller ID display.  Cell phones have caller ID but what if you just want to glance at the LCD display screen on your headset before taking the call?  Something to consider.
  • Bluetooth headset charger.  Most headsets come with chargers included.
  • Bluetooth USB adapter.  A USB Adapter allows you to transfer files from your phone to your computer or use your cell phone to create an internet connection for your computer.
  • Pouches and holsters.  A pouch or holster comes in handy when trying to keep track of you Bluetooth headset.

The number of cell phone headsets is growing every day.  Styles, features, performance and compatibility vary so choosing the right one for you takes time and patience.
